Werner Feiersinger has placed two oversized metal sculptures in the main room of the gallery. In the entrance area lies a ponderous crystalline form. Its weight is not perceptible. The sculpture is a geometric construction resembling the model casting of a rock formation reduced to and studied for its cubic content. The sculpture appears to develop out of the floor, revealing only a small part of its true size. It generates recollections of landscapes, of pictorial elements from Romantic painting without amorphous vocabulary of form.
“As it stands, the perception of the sculpture undergoes a thorough deceptive maneuver through the color of its surface and leaves various metaphoric interpretations open. The object is like a blanket laid over particular objects, outlining their forms.” (Werner Feiersinger)
In the second room is a piece reminiscent of a toolbox: carrying handle, compartment, and case are the realistically comprehensible elements of this metal sculpture. But all the functions connected to them are fractured. Alone their weight, their size and their functional development prohibit their traditional use; the compartments are open, calling more to mind the garage parking spaces of an apartment building.
Werner Feiersinger’s sculptures range between everyday objects and architectural models and nevertheless still only hint at a possible or designated use. In their substance, these sculptures attain their qualities from a constant exchange between abstract form and realistic attributions. In this work, the question of content remains on a level of abstraction where the outer form serves only as a playful element to communicate these ideas.
“The viewer becomes a part of the sculpture, the relationship between body and object, the communication and the spatial relationship to the recipient are the central themes and let this situation of different protagonists freeze into a romantic image.” (Werner Feiersinger)
On the upper floor of the gallery we are showing a selection of recent (1992–2000) sculptural pieces by Werner Feiersinger which give insight into development of his work.
