Erwin Bohatsch's work is characterized by constant oscillation between representationalism and abstraction, between color and non-color, between line and surface. It revolves around the question of the topicality of painting, which is still controversial today. In his current works, he defines the pictorial field as a heterogeneous matrix on which sharply defined forms meet open painting fields with coarsely brushed brushstrokes.
